History:
la Vella, the Mirador de la Comella is one of the city’s oldest cultural attractions. Built in 1895, the Mirador de la Comella has served as a popular lookout point and promenade in the capital for over a century. Located on the hillside west of the city centre, the views from the Mirador de la Comella have been captured in many photographs and paintings. The grand opening of the Mirador de la Comella was celebrated with great fanfare on August 16, 1895. The mayor of Andorra la Vella, thereby declaring the opening of the Mirador, declared the prompt construction of the building to be a great success. There, atop the hillside, a balcony of white stone was built with an impressive arched doorway leading into a viewing platform overlooking the city centre. In the early days of the Mirador de la Comella, plentiful trees and shrubs lined the path from the viewing platform to the city center. The constant sound of chirping birds and gently rustling leaves made the Mirador a paradise of tranquility nestled in the city bustle. As time passed, its views remained alluring and, in 1967, the surrounding Sycamore Trees were removed to open up the view and facilitate the building of two sets of steps leading down the hillside to the city centre. The Mirador de la Comella became an official historic monument of Andorra la Vella in 2008 and underwent renovations in 2018. As such, it still stands today as a cherished viewing point and reminder of the city's storied history. Visit one of the famous monuments of Andorra with your friends and family.
