History:

The Sorteny Valley Natural Park in the Principality of Ordino in Andorra has been a protected natural area since 2003. Located at the highest point of the Pyrenees mountain range, it is home to a large variety of flora and fauna. The park covers more than 6600 hectares and is composed of different ecological zones, including alpine, subalpine, forest, and meadow environments. The history of the park can be traced back more than 10,000 years ago, when nomadic hunter-gatherers lived in the area. As these people developed their culture, they built structures that are still visible today, such as stone circles, burial sites, and rock art. The modern day park was first established in 1992 when a decree was passed by Andorran authorities in order to protect the rural and natural environment of the Sorteny Valley. Since then, there has been a push to introduce agricultural procedures that promote sustainable land use. This includes the eradication of invasive species, the renovation of existing agricultural infrastructures, and the conservation of traditional farming practices. The park is now a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers, nature-lovers, and wildlife watchers. It provides visitors with spectacular panoramic views of the Andorran countryside, as well as a wide range of activities to enjoy and educational opportunities about the local wildlife and environment.
