History:
The El Khabir Dam is located in Algeria near the city of Setif. It is an important part of the “Plan of Development” which is run by the Algerian government. It was designed and built by Hydro-Ingénierie and constructed between 2008-2013. The main purpose of this dam was to create a reservoir for irrigation and drinking water and the protection of the surrounding area from floods. It also had the aim of controlling the flow of the Seybouse River so that it could be used for hydroelectric production. The reservoir of the dam is expected to reach about 350 million cubic meters. The dam is made of concrete with a central part, a spillway, two canals on each side and two intakes. The central part of the dam is 108 meters high with a total length of 812 meters. The development plan of the dam include systems for water collection, purification, treatment, and distribution. There are two turbines for hydroelectric generation and the hydroelectric power station is managed by the National Electricity Company of Algeria (Nareva).
