The base is located about 17 miles east of the city of Vlorë, and was established in 1961 by the Communist People's Republic of Albania. The Pashaliman Naval Base is an important strategic military base located in Vlorë, Albania. It is one of the oldest military bases in the country, with the first records mentioning it as early as 1613. The base has traditionally served as an important naval and logistical facility for the Albanian military. In 1927, the base was doubled in size and was reinforced with fortifications in order to protect it from potential rival naval forces. During the Second World War, the base was occupied by the German army, who used it as a major base for their "Wolf Pack" submarines. After the collapse of Mussolini's regime, the base was re-taken by the Partisans and Alabania regarned control of the base. Following the end of the Cold War, the base was modernized by the Albanian government as a major naval base. It now serves as an important facility for the Albanian navy and is equipped with a variety of modern warships and submarines.
