Overview:

Takht-e Rostam, or the Throne of Rostam, is an archaeological site in Afghanistan, located in the province of Samangan near the city of Basra. It is believed to be the tomb of Rostam, a mythical figure from the Shahnameh (literally "The Book of Kings"), the national epic of Iran. The site dates back to the 5th century BC. It is a site with remains of a Zoroastrian fire temple, constructed mostly of worked stone blocks each with an inscription. A nearby cave is believed by some to have been used for the worship of angels and an ancient Zoroastrian temple are believed to have existed in the vicinity. The site has also yielded numerous artifacts and wall paintings, mostly depicting ancient Iranian deities.
