: The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a field research station that provides accommodation and research support for scientists, naturalists, and other visitors interested in conservation and research in the unique and biodiverse region of the Peruvian Amazon. Located in the heart of the Madre de Dios region, the area of the reserve to which the TRC is an active partner is home to an incredible array of wildlife and is the largest protected section of the largest protected area in the country. History:

Tambopata Research Center (TRC) in Peru was founded in 1991 by Cornell University researchers, David Wilkie and Sandy Brokaw. The mission of the TRC is to promote the ethical and sustainable development of the Amazonian rainforest and its wildlife, as well as to generate a meaningful and integrated understanding of Amazonian ecology. TRC’s activities focus on understanding species-habitat relationships, and the interactions between the human settlements and the surrounding ecosystems. The research performed at TRC is often aimed at the conservation of the endangered species and habitats within the rainforest. TRC staff conduct research and studies in fields such as wildlife behavior, plant ecology, climate change, conservation biology, and human-wildlife conflict. The TRC also provides workshops, outreach opportunities, and environmental education programs to local Amazonian communities. By engaging with the local populations and providing them with the resources for local development, the TRC fosters sustainable human-rainforest relationships. Today, TRC is a world leader in rainforest conservation research.
