The primary purpose of these stupa monuments is spiritual and ritual, allowing all worshipers to show reverence and veneration at the Shaolin Temple. Worshipers revere the memory of monks who died in Buddhism, and also uphold Buddhist teachings. Pagoda Forest worshipers observe certain ancient rules and protocols for reverence at the Shaolin Temple, including making stone steps up to the pagoda entrance, walking clockwise around the pagoda, and only touching the interior walls with the palms of their hands.
