The Teatro Antico di Taormina is an ancient Greek theatre located in Taormina, a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily, Italy. The theatre was built in the third century BC in the Hellenistic period, during the rule of Hieron II of Syracuse. It is believed to have been modeled on the Theatre of Dionysus in Athens, and is one of the best preserved ancient Greek theatres in the world. It is still used today for a variety of performances, including theatrical plays, operas, music concerts, and ballet. The theatre is situated in a natural amphitheatre overlooking the Ionian Sea.
