History:
The Khabarovsk Regional Museum was established in 1895, originally under the auspices of the East Siberian Department of the Imperial Academy of Science in St. Petersburg. The main goal of the museum was to provide a comprehensive study of the flora and fauna of the Amur region and the Primorsky Krai. In the 1920s, the museum underwent a number of changes due to the political and economic transformations that took place during the Soviet period. The museum continued to focus on the study of natural history but its functions were expanded to include the preservation of cultural, historic, and archaeological artefacts. This led to the establishment of an archaeological department in 1924 and the opening of an associated museum founded to exhibit these artefacts. In 1933, the museum was given its current name of the Khabarovsk Regional Museum. In 1991, the museum was relocated to its present location on Ulitsa Karla Marxa in Khabarovsk. Since then, the museum has increased its focus on preserving and exhibiting the unique cultural artefacts found in the region. It has also incorporated interactive exhibits and educational programmes which have contributed to an ever-increasing interest in the museum’s collections. Today, the museum is one of the most prominent cultural and historic attractions of the Far East region. Visit one of the famous monuments of Russia with your friends and family.
