History:

The Gotland Ring in Sweden is an oval race track located at Tofta Airfield on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. The circuit was opened in 1998 and is owned by the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation, Förbundet Svensk MotorSport. It is a popular destination for race and driving enthusiasts, as well as a venue for international championships. The Gotland Ring was designed to be an open-air motor racing facility, meaning that wind and weather are part of the equation in every race. The track has a total length of 2.810 kilometers and features several steep grades and sharp turns. The initial concept for the track was developed in 1995 by Ola Forsgil, an architect and skating enthusiast. Forgils main interest was to create an oval racing track for inline skating. But in 1996, Forsgil decided to focus on a more serious project, and he began a collaboration with the Förbundet Svensk MotorSport. After two years of hard work, planning and fundraising, the project was finally completed on September 20th 1998. The race track was officially inaugurated with an endurance race, the first such race to be held at the Gotland Ring. Since its opening, the Gotland Ring has hosted several international and national events, including the Swedish Touring Car Championship and the Polestar Motor Racing Series.
