History:

Göteborg Opera, officially known as GöteborgsOperan, is the national opera of Sweden, located in Gothenburg, Sweden. The theatre was founded in 1923 and opened in 1925 with a production of the classic opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet. The building was designed as a modernist palace and has served multiple purposes including a movie theatre, and a performance hall for actors and musicians. In 1961, the Swedish government declared that Göteborg Opera should become the national opera house of Sweden and be supported by the State in order to preserve the performing arts in Sweden and promote Swedish opera.
