History:
Da Nang Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in the center of Da Nang City in Vietnam. It is the most recognizable example of Gothic Revival architecture in the city. Construction of the church began in 1923, and the building was completed in 1931. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, the patroness of Da Nang. During the Vietnam War (1955-1975), the church was heavily damaged by bombardments, and many of its stained glass windows were destroyed. However, the building and its main structure were still standing after the war. Since the 1990s, the cathedral has undergone major repairs and restoration. Parts of the church were often renovated, and the building was repainted in 2006. In 2015, the building underwent further restoration work and a new bell tower was added to the structure. Today, the cathedral is still an active place of worship. It is an iconic symbol of Da Nang and a popular tourist destination. Every year, thousands of people gather there to celebrate religious events such as Christmas or Easter. The annual Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception procession also takes place around the church.
