History:

Truong Tien Bridge is a bridge built over the Perfume River in Hue, Vietnam. The bridge was originally designed by a project manager named Poncin Deau in 1885 and was completed in 1899 during the period of the reign of Emperor Dong Khanh. It was initially named Con Cau Bridge by Deau, and was later changed to its current name to commemorate Ton Duc Thang, a Vietnamese president in the early 20th century. The bridge is notable for its distinct, four-part, drawbridge design, which has been in operation ever since the bridge was first opened to traffic. In April 1945, during the Battle of Huế, the bridge was destroyed by French troops as the tide was rising, as a way of preventing the enemy from crossing the river. The bridge remained unusable until 1950, when it was reconstructed with many of its original features retained. In 1973, the bridge was declared a national monument by the Vietnamese government. The bridge underwent improvements for safety and aesthetics in 1998 and 1999, when decorative light fixtures were added to the bridge. Later in 2019, the bridge's light fixtures were upgraded and replaced with modern LED lights, to give the bridge a modern and updated look. Today, Truong Tien Bridge has become an iconic landmark in the city of Hue. Many visitors come to enjoy its spectacular views, and it is often used as a backdrop for wedding photos.
