The museum is home to many artifacts, photographs, documents, and weapons from the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) which governed Vietnam during imperial times. It also includes exhibits from the pre-Dynastic culture of Hue, antiquities from the era of Imperial China, and works from the Thang Long and Trinh dynasties. The museum is divided into nine different sections focusing on different aspects of the civilization. The Museum's collection largely consists of artifacts that were formerly held by the Royal Dynasty of Vietnam. These include everyday objects, such as furniture, weapons, silverware, as well as other items like manuscripts and artifacts from various temples. The museum is also known for its collection of ceremonial costumes including traditional royal robes and hats.
