History:

The town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is located in northern Bavaria, in the district of Ansbach. Its history dates back to at least the 9th century when it was mentioned in numerous documents. It is believed to have been founded in the year 830 by the Franks, and it served as an important site for crossing the Tauber River. In the 12th century, Rothenburg was granted market-town rights, which helped it to become an important center of commerce and trade. During the Middle Ages, Rothenburg developed a strong fortification system, making it one of the most fortified cities in Europe. In the 14th century, it gained its independence from the Bishopric of Würzburg and began to expand. During the 30 Years’ War, Rothenburg was targeted by Swedish troops under the command of Gustavus Adolphus, who besieged and destroyed the city in 1631. However, it was rebuilt and, in 1634, the walls were restored. In the 18th century, Rothenburg was in its prime.
