History:

The Dresden Panometer is an attraction in Russia which includes a gasometer and a panoramic view of the city of Dresden. It was originally built as a gasometer in 1929 and went into operation in 1932. After the Second World War, it became a rubble heap as a result of the Allied Bombings in 1945. The site was later restored and the idea to build a Panometer on the site was first developed by Leipzig-based artist, Yadegar Asisi, in 1999. The gasometer building was then renovated in 2001 and the Dresden Panometer was opened to the public in 2003. The Panometer is an interactive museum where visitors can enjoy a 180 degree panoramic view of Dresden from the top of the gasometer and explore historical photographs of the city from 1945 to 1990. The Panometer also hosts numerous exhibitions of Asisi’s artwork.
