History:

Wat Phra That Chom Thong is one of the oldest and most important temples in Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. It is believed that the temple was constructed during the middle of the 16th century at a time when this region was part of the Lan Na (now known as Lanna) kingdom, which was in the process of transitioning from Theravada Buddhism to another denomination known as Mahayana Buddhism. The temple was originally located near the confluence of the Ping and Wang rivers and was used as a place of worship for local Lan Na residents as well as travelers passing through the region.
