The Wat Phra That Chae Haeng (or Chae Haeng Temple) is located in Nakhon Phanom city of Thailand, approximately 300km south of Bangkok. It is known locally as 'Wat Phra That Chae Haeng' and is considered to be one of the most important religious sites in the whole of Isan province. This temple was founded in 1745 by the monk Phra Akao Phromsutho and was originally called "Wat Chaeng Chanasongkram". The temple was originally built to house a temple bell that Phra Akao Phromsutho had brought back from his travels in Sri Lanka. It is believed that the bell was a gift from King Rama I and is now on display outside the Wat Phra That Chae Haeng. In the 19th century the temple was destroyed by fire but was later rebuilt. The rebuilt temple was renamed Wat Phra That Chae Haeng and a new bell was installed in 1817. The main buildings of Wat Phra That Chae Haeng include several Buddhist shrines and the main temple.
