In Suchindram Thanumalayan Temple, Kanyakumari, the traditional worship which is carried out daily in the Temple is called Pancharatra Puja - a form of Vedic worship. This worship method is based on the Pancharatra Agamas - ancient Vedic texts which form the basis of temple worship in South India. The worship starts with the chanting of various Vedic mantras to invoke the presence of the presiding deities. Following this, Kannikapoo or deepa aradhana (lighting of lamps) is done, after which the offering of special flowers, plantain leaves, fruits and prasadam is made to the deities. Festivals and special poojas are celebrated in the Temple, such as the Bijana Utsavam festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Aippasi and the Navaratri festival.
