The Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection has been serving the spiritual needs of Orthodox Christians in Switzerland since 1932. The church is part of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, commonly referred to as the ROCOR, and was established to serve the needs of Russia's spiritual and political refugees. The church is based in Lausanne and is the only Orthodox Church in Switzerland with an exclusively Russian clergy. It is one of the best churches in Switzerland which you must visit.

History:

The church was originally founded in the early 1930s by the Russian emigrants who had fled to Switzerland after the revolution of 1917. Many of these people were members of the White Russian movement, which had fought against the Bolsheviks in the Russian Civil War. After being exiled from Russia, many of them chose to settle in Switzerland, where they were welcomed by the government and allowed to hold religious services. The Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection in Lausanne was founded shortly afterwards. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Switzerland.

The Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection is one of the few churches in the world that has a pipe organ specifically made for liturgical services. It was built in a unique "Art Nouveau" style by the company Rodolphe Coran in 1935 and is considered to be one of the finest examples of this type of organ. The church also has some of the oldest icons in Switzerland, as well as some of the most beautiful chandeliers and frescoes.
