The Sivaneswarar Temple, Selvanagar East in Sri Lanka is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple follows the Vedic traditions of worship and has some particular characteristics of its own. The temple offers daily puja services, homas, festivals, and special prayers. The daily puja at Sivaneswarar Temple begins with the chanting of the Rudram mantras, followed by the offering of flowers and incense to the presiding deity. This is followed by a prayer invoking the thirteen different forms of Lord Shiva, which is then followed by the singing of various Sanskrit hymns. During the puja, the sanctified fire is used to offer oblations to the gods, and camphor is lit and waved over the deity as a symbol of enlightenment of the soul.
