Holy Mother of the Rosary Church - Mahawela is a 150-year-old Catholic church located in Mahawela, in the Kurunegala District of Sri Lanka. It is believed to have been built by early Portuguese settlers in the area. The church has undergone several renovations and now serves as a popular pilgrimage destination for Catholic worshippers. The history of Holy Mother of the Rosary Church - Mahawela dates back to the middle of the 19th century when Portuguese Catholics from the island of Goa settled in the area. The church was initially dedicated to St. Joseph and was made of timber and coral. In the late 19th century, it was dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, or the Holy Mother of the Rosary. Subsequent renovations were done in 1925 and 2001, which included the replacement of the wooden structure with a more durable concrete building.
