History:
Aarhus University (AU) is the second oldest university in Denmark. It was founded on 11 September 1928, when the Aarhus University Domain—now Botanical Garden of Aarhus University—was inaugurated. Initially, the University of Aarhus consisted of three faculties: Arts, Law and Theology. Over the following decades, new departments and faculties were added, such as, for instance, Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Medicine, and Science and Technology. In 1968, it changed its name from Aarhus University College to Aarhus University. Later, a few new faculties were established such as the Faculty of Health and the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts. Today, Aarhus University has more than 35,000 students and is considered one of the leading research and education institutions in Northern Europe. Throughout the years, the university has greatly contributed to the region’s economic development and has, for instance, invested in advanced technology and knowledge-intensive services.
