Saint Laurence Church (Kerteminde) is a Romanesque church located in the town of Kerteminde, in the northern part of Denmark's Funen Island. It was built in the late 11th century/early 12th century and is the only surviving Romanesque church of the region.
It is one of the best churches in Denmark which you must visit.
History:
Prior to the construction of Saint Laurence Church (Kerteminde), the area had a wooden church which was erected sometime in the 10th century and was destroyed by fire. In 1188, King Valdemar I was granted permission from the bishop of Odense to construct a new stone church in the area, and so the Saint Laurence Church (Kerteminde) was built shortly afterwards. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Denmark.
