Brief History:

Architecture:

The Masjid al-Mahabbah is one of the three holiest mosques in Saudi Arabia. It was built in 600 AH (1203–4 AD) by the former ruler of the area, Khuzaimah bin Duwad II. The mosque is characterized by its grand Arab-Islamic architecture, its spaciousness and its central location in the Holy City of Mecca. The mosque is surrounded by a wall and entrance is from a grand gate along the north side of the mosque, which is made of marble and inlaid with red sandstone. The entrance leads to an enclosure with two sections: a courtyard and a prayer hall. The courtyard contains the Kaaba, the holiest site for Muslims around the world. Around the Kaaba are four minarets, which are made of marble and inlaid with marble tablets. There is also a water fount that is used for ritual purification before prayers. Within the prayer hall, which is made of marble and wood, are two pulpits that serve as the podiums for preaching. Also on the eastern wall is a niche (Mehrab) that people face while praying. The ceiling of the prayer hall is decorated with beatiful Islamic art, while the walls are painted in royal Islamic colors with Quranic verses inscribed in beautiful calligraphy. The design of the Masjid al-Mahabbah displays the beauty of early Islamic architecture. The visiting hours of Masjid al-Mahabbah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia are from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm local time.
