Masjid al-Salam (also known as the Grand Mosque of Makkah) is one of Islam’s holiest mosques and is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is marked by two massive, intricately designed gates. The main gates have five-arched sections with four large doors underneath them. The base of the gates are decorated with colorful tiles and intricate patterns. Their upper levels are decorated with inscriptions and surrounded by projects with multi-colored tympana. Masjid al-Salam also has several buildings and facilities including the library, as well as several galleries for visitors. The library is the largest in the world and contains over 500,000 books on Islamic culture and history. It has an adjoining mosque which is used for special ceremonies.
