Brief History:

is the oldest mosque in the Holy City of Mecca, dating back to the 7th century . It was built by the second Islamic caliph, Umar ibn al-Khattab, in the year 638 AD, and is located close to the Kaaba. It was initially used as a mosque and a site for Islamic preaching, but eventually became the site for religious meetings between scholars, including the famous Sahaba. It was also used as a center for teaching and memorizing Qur'an and Hadith. Architecture:

The Masjid al-Hikmah (The Wisdom Mosque) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia is located within the haram (sacred enclosure) of the al-Masjid al-Haram, the holiest site in Islam. It was built in 2012, during the reign of King Abdullah and stands at a height of 27 meters. It consists of two stories, with 10 domes, and covers an area of 7,570 square meters. The architect who designed Masjid al-Hikmah was Adnan Saffarini. The inspiration for the mosque came from the Grand Mosque surrounding it, as well as the traditional Islamic architectural style commonly found in Islamic holy sites. The building includes elements of marble and limestone which were used for the walls and paved courtyards. The domes were built with an intricate pattern of red, yellow and green colored glass tiles in intricate geometric patterns. In the traditional layout of the mosque, the prayer hall is located in the lower level of the mosque and has 12 arches. The second story includes a circle of pillars and a circular library. The minarets, the mihrabs (the place where people turn their face when they pray) and the water tower, stand at the main entrance of the mosque. The mosque also provides modern amenities such as an internet-connected library, an audio system for calling people to prayer and a radio broadcast. The audio system is connected to the entire Haram (sacred enclosure). The mosque also provides facilities such as a canteen and educational center for students to attend classes. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
