St. Luke's Anglican Church, Gorjôes In Portugal: History,Facts, & Services
History:
St. Luke's Anglican Church, Gorjôes was built in 1822 by order of the 7th Earl of Waterford, in memory of his mother, Lady Lucy Napier. The plans for the church were drawn up by a bookbinder from London, under guidance from local craftsmen. Construction began in 1823 and three years later the church was consecrated by Archbishop William Laud, Bishop of Oxford. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.

St. Luke's Anglican Church, Gorjôes is a small single-aisle building, with a nave that has the original box pews. The floor is tiled in checkerboard style and the painted glass is on the sides of the east end windows. The church was restored and restored again in 1905 and further work was carried out in the 1990s.

St. Luke's Anglican Church, Gorjôes offers services every Sunday at 11am, followed by tea and coffee. Special services are held at Christmas and Easter. Confirmation classes and bible study classes are held periodically.
