Basílica da Estrela is a Roman Catholic basilica located in the parish of Estrela in Lisbon, Portugal. It was built in the late 18th century and is the only example of a baroque church in Lisbon. It has a richly decorated interior with a large oval nave, an impressive marble altar, and a cupola over its apse.

History:
The construction of Basílica da Estrela was financed by Queen Maria I of Portugal, who wanted to commemorate the birth of her son, Prince John, in 1789. Construction began in 1790 and took nine years to complete. After Marie’s death, her son, Dom João VI, ordered the construction of two larger churches and two belvederes on the hilltop surrounding the church. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
