is a historical mosque located in the town of Al Qalhat, in Wilayat Qurayyat in Al Batinah Region, Oman. Built in the 8th century, it is believed to be one of the oldest surviving mosques in the country. The mosque was initially used for Sunni Islamic practices, but during the 9th century it was also known to be the home of a group of Shiite Muslims. It is a large two-storey building built from coral stone blocks and local brown limestone, surrounded by a courtyard and a portico. The mosque originally contained a central courtyard and a prayer hall along the qibla (direction of prayer) wall, but this was replaced by a two-storey prayer room in the 16th century. The mosque underwent major renovations between 2015 and 2016, which included the renovation of the prayer hall, the building of a new minaret, and the installation of a new mihrab (arch of prayer). The mosque takes the traditional form of a hypostyle mosque, with a large rectangular prayer hall roofed by a central dome, and four minarets at the corners. It is constructed out of local white limestone and mortar, and is decorated with geometric patterns and inscriptions. The central dome is supported by four arches on ornately decorated columns, and is covered in intricately carved stucco. The interior of the mosque is illuminated by a series of teardrop-shaped windows, and painted with intricate floral and arabesque designs.
