Brief History:

Al Qabil North West Mosque is one of the oldest, most important and grandest mosques in Oman. It dates back to the 12th century and was built during the reign of Sultan Al-Nasir bin Sanjar from the Al-Yaarubi dynasty. The mosque is situated in the north-west of the town of Sib near Nizwa. It consists of a square main hall, two side-wings, two mihrabs, two piers, decorated multi-domed qibla and two minarets. The mosque has a great variety of geometric and floral stucco decoration. Aksarayi inscription is also inscribed there, forming a statement of importance. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Al Qabil North West Mosque is located in Sohar, part of the Al Batinah region of Oman. The mosque was designed by prominent Omani architect Muzhar al Rashid and is a very impressive example of Islamic architecture. The mosque features two minarets, each with five sides bordering a central dome. The dome is topped with a crescent and low-scale spire, while the base of the edifice is surrounded by 24 small, ornate domes. Inside the mosque, the prayer hall is spacious and bright, with the mihrab - or wall niche facing the direction of Mecca - being the focus for worshippers. The walls are lined with stunningly intricate stucco work and terracotta art. The mosque is generously sized, with modern amenities to suit the needs of worshippers.
