It is one of the most significant Islamic shrines in the Arab world, built on the orders of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said in 1986. The mosque includes four separate prayer halls; one for men, one for women, one for mixed congregations, and one for Friday prayers. It was the first mosque to have an automatic call to prayer or "Adhan" system and it also features a library, an auditorium, a conference hall, and an Islamic Cultural Centre. Architecture:
Al Mudhaireb South East Central Mosque was first established in 1990 in the semi-rural town of Al Mudhaireb in the Governorate of South Al Sharqa in the Sultanate of Oman. The mosque was rebuilt twice, firstly in 2002 after it was destroyed in 1994 and later in 2011. The mosque was built in traditional local architectural style and includes an open central courtyard, four side courtyards, four side rooms, two main doors and four minarets. The main entrance to the mosque is through a majestic arch, while the interior of the mosque is characterized by rich wood, marble, gold and ceramic decoration. The dome of the main prayer hall is an impressive sight, made from pre-painted steel with gilded botanical decorations. The dome is 30m high and was constructed using modern building techniques, such as cantilevers and structural mesh boxes. This is one of the most impressive mosques in Oman, with its striking modern design which combines local Islamic traditions with modern technology.
