Architecture:
Al Khuwayr West Mosque is a two-story religious structure constructed in traditional Omani style. The mosque has a total area of 870 square meters, and the structure consists of two main parts: an open courtyard and a prayer hall, which are built on a raised plinth and adorned with geometric stonework. The mosque is located on the West bank of the Al Khuwayr River. The design of the mosque follows a musharabiya style of Islamic architecture, with many curved openings and unique jalis adorning the walls. The main entrance of the mosque is on the North-facing wall and opens into the open courtyard. There is an entrance for worshippers in the South-facing wall. A large central circular dome with minarets on either side is located in the center of the courtyard. The interior of the mosque features traditional Islamic elements including multiple mihrabs, which are recesses built into the wall that indicate the direction of Mecca. There are also intricately-carved wooden doors and marble floors, and the walls are adorned with Quranic verses and beautiful geometric patterns and floral motifs. The prayer hall, which is located on the second story of the mosque, is interspersed with a series of smaller, interconnected domed chambers. The roof of the chambers is supported by numerous pillars, which are beautifully decorated with calligraphic inscriptions and other intricate designs. A staircase from the prayer hall leads up to the roof, which provides a spectacular view of the Al Khuwayr River and the surrounding desert landscape. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
