The Al Khabourah SouthEast North Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Muscat, Oman and dates back to the early 19th century. During the 1970s, the mosque underwent extensive renovations and was declared a national monument.The mosque is well maintained and remains a popular landmark in the city. The Al Khabourah South East North Mosque is a traditional mosque located in Khabourah, Oman. It was constructed in the late 1980s as part of the development of the area. The mosque is a single-storey building with a courtyard, a main prayer hall and a set of ancillary spaces. The prayer hall features a traditional Omani mix of domes and arches. The walls are made of stone blocks and painted white. The main entrance is located on the southeast side. As with other traditional Omani mosques, the Al Khabourah South East North Mosque has a traditional prayer hall design with twin domes, columns and wooden gates to provide access. The main prayer hall is surrounded by four shikkin (columns) which are symbols of Islamic faith. The columns are made of locally sourced wood and painted with traditional Islamic patterns. The mosque also features a traditional Iwan (arcaded room) traditionally used by women during prayer. This Iwan features a dome and is decorated with mosaic tiles. The grounds of the mosque are also beautifully landscaped with trees, shrubs and flower beds. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
