Brief History:

is a part of the great mosque of Jifnain, which is located in the Wilayat of Muscat in Oman. It was constructed in the late eighteenth century by the tribal leader Sayyid Ma'an bin Abdulla bin Sayyid al Jifnaini. The mosque has an area of around 1,640 meters and contains a beautiful minaret with four sides. Inside the mosque, there is a mihrab – a prayer niche – that points towards the direction of Mecca. The mosque also features a large courtyard with a number of pillars and several smaller prayer rooms. It is surrounded by a wall and includes a wooden roof to keep its visitors in the cool dry shade. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Al Jifnain South North Mosque in Oman can commonly seen symmetrical in design. The mosque has its main entrance from the south side flanked by two semi-circular minarets. Inside the mosque there are two parallel arcades of approximately 16 x 16 ft each on either side of the prayer hall. Along the longitudinal axis, these arcades are separated by a central aisle and perpendicular aisles which form passageways to the northern side. The prayer hall is graced with a large dome and three smaller ones set on octagonal drums. The dome’s octagonal transition from the square prayer hall is supported by four thin pillars made of fine Omani marble. The walls are further embellished with intricately carved Khalif Mockets, covered in white plaster and painted floral motifs. Various Quranic inscriptions are found in carved wooden frames at the windows above. Finally, the Qibla wall is highlighted with calligraphic inscriptions of the 99 names of Allah painted in turquoise color. The main hejra which conforms to the main porch and ablution facilities are located to the north side, followed by wudu facilities and stairs to the roof. Al Jifnain South North Mosque is located at Al Jifnain Village, in the Seeb area of Muscat Governorate, Oman. The closest airport to the mosque is Muscat International Airport (MCT), which is located about 150 kilometres away from the mosque. Public transport is available from the airport to the mosque. Buses are the most common form of public transport used to reach the mosque from the airport. Bus routes 4 and 5 run directly from the airport to Al Jifnain Village, and bus route 23 can take passengers to the nearby Airport Hotel. From the hotel, passengers will have to take a taxi to the mosque. Alternatively, passengers can take a taxi directly from the airport to the mosque, though this can cost more than taking the bus. beautiful masjid.
