Architecture:

The Al Ghubrah South Central West North Mosque in Oman was built in the late 1960s. The mosque was designed by Muscat-born architect J. M. Jumaiah and is considered the largest and the most lavish mosque in the country. The mosque features a traditional Omani style with a unique blend of modern architecture. The building has three main sections, the central prayer hall, a south outer prayer hall, and west and north wings. The main prayer hall is surrounded by four minarets, each minaret standing at 25 metres tall. The four minarets are decorated from the exterior with geometric patterns and feature arabesque designs on the inner surface. The central hall has a flat, sloping roof and is constructed from stone and reinforced concrete. It is considered the focal point of the mosque and is used for daily prayers. The exterior walls feature ornamental plaster designs and calligraphic verses from the Quran. The South outer prayer hall is constructed from concrete and brick with an open design and natural lighting. It is surrounded by two more minarets, each at 12 metres tall. The West and North wings are constructed from locally sourced stone, and feature an open courtyard on one side of the mosque. The courtyard is surrounded by a portico which is used for additional prayer space.
