The chapel was built in 1640 and was believed to have stood for over 300 years. The origin of the chapel is shrouded in mystery with most historians believing the chapel to have been built by the Order of St. John with the help of the villagers of Luqa. It is believed that the original chapel was smaller than the present one and that it was extended and modified in the 19th century. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Malta.

Ta’ Durumblat Chapel is a Grade 2 scheduled property and part of the Knights of Malta World Heritage Site. The chapel is a Renaissance-style stone building which includes a rectangular nave, small transept, a bell-cot and a roof covered with flat tiles. The interior of the chapel includes a 16th-century painted altarpiece, seats and a baptismal font. The chapel is located in a peaceful and serene area surrounded by a number of so-called “Arches”, which are small enclaves with cliff walls.
