Santwarju tal-Madonna ta’ Pompei is a Roman Catholic shrine located in the town pompei, Italy. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Pompeii, an apparition of the Virgin Mary to whom a local peasant girl reportedly saw. The shrine is one of the most important religious sanctuaries in southern Italy, attracting thousands of pilgrims and visitors each year. It is located on the boarder of the ancient city of Pompeii and has become a place of pilgrimage and devotion to the Virgin Mary. The site is reputed to have miraculous powers, vowing to heal the sick, help the dispossessed, and work miracles. The shrine features a large basilica, several relics and chapels, and a number of vibrant statues and frescoes throughout the building. Visitors are able to attend mass, visit the tombs of St. Agatha and St. Sebastian, and venerate the relics of Our Lady of Pompeii. Many of the items, including the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, were salvaged from the ruins of the destroyed town in the aftermath of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on August 24th, 79 AD.
