Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows is a Roman Catholic church located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1854, making it the oldest parish in Allegheny County. The parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and serves the needs of the Catholic faithful throughout the borough. The parish is divided into three sections: the East Side Parish, South Side Parish and West Side Parish. The current pastor is Father John M. Purcell. It is one of the best churches in Malta which you must visit.

History:

In 1854 Bishop Michael O'Connor, the first Bishop of Pittsburgh, established the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows on a plot of land purchased from Mr. George Frauenheim. The first church building, constructed in 1857, was a two-story wood-framed and brick-veneered building situated on Elizabeth (now Greentree) Road. The church was destroyed by fire in 1912 and, two years later, the present building was completed and dedicated. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Malta.

In June of 1921, the parish celebrated the Marian Year in honor of the centennial of the Church’s Patroness, the Blessed Virgin Mary. On that occasion, the parish was crowded with ordinaries, monsignors, priests, and many local residents. In September of 1935, the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows was visited by a future Pope, His Grace Archbishop Angelo Roncalli who at that time was the Papal Nuncio (the Vatican's diplomatic representative) to Turkey.
