History:

Knisja ta' San Pawl was built between 1570 and 1577, by order of Grand Master Jean de Valette, as Malta's cathedral church (which it remained until 1822). He had set up the Confraternity of Saint Paul in 1571 and the same year donated a relic of the saint to the church. Valette himself was the first member of this confraternity and the members assembled at the church during his lifetime. Today the members offer weekly masses for those no longer alive. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Malta.
