Chapel of San Mikiel Is-Sanċir is a historical and religious site located in the city of Ħaż-Żabbar, Malta. The chapel, which dates back to the 13th century, is dedicated to St. Michael and is one of the oldest and most important historical monuments in Malta. It is believed to have been an early sign of the archangel's protection over the town of Ħaż-Żabbar. The chapel's history is mostly documented from the 16th century onward. It is reported that a monastery was built in 1535 and the church was added to it in 1560. The church was re-dedicated to St. Michael in 1583. In 1610, it was restored and redecorated, and a new altar was built. Over the following centuries, the chapel was renovated and extended several times. In 1947, it was renovated again and the main altar was dedicated to St. Michael. The chapel is part of the Parish of Ħaż-Żabbar, and it is well-visited by tourists and locals alike. Today, the chapel of San Mikiel Is-Sanċir offers regular services every Sunday, and a mass is held each Wednesday at 19:00 pm. It also organizes a number of annual events, such as the procession on May 8th, the Feast of St. Michael (September 29th), and the formal crowning of the statue at the beginning of October. The chapel also serves as a venue for weddings and other religious ceremonies.
