Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady is a Roman Catholic church located in the city of Rome, Italy. It is one of the four major papal basilicas in Rome. The church is famous for being the site where Pope Pius IX proclaimed the dogma of Immaculate Conception in 1854. It is one of the best churches in Malta which you must visit.

History:

The original church of the Annunciation was built in the eighth century by Pope Zachary, who chose the site for its resemblance to the grotto of the Annunciation at Nazareth. The original building was renovated in 1370 and again in 1601, when it was given its present façade. The church was declared a basilica by Pope Paul V in 1612. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Malta.

The church of the Annunciation features 15th-century frescos of Jesus’ childhood by Vincenzo Tamagni, said to be among the best in Rome.
