The Jordan River Foundation (JRF) was founded in 1996 as a charitable, non-profit organisation. It aims to support and empower vulnerable communities, promote the conservation of the country’s natural resources and develop international cooperation initiatives. JRF was established in response to the needs of local communities in Jordan for access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation, better health, education and employment services, and a range of other related initiatives to benefit the country’s environment and its people. Supported by both local and international philanthropists, the organisation grew out of a number of well established local initiatives which had been set up in the early 1990s. JRF’s activities and programmes increases awareness of the country’s natural resources, builds capacity for environmental protection, encourages cooperation between different partners from all sectors, and implements direct intervention on the ground.
