The village dates back to the pre-Roman era, with evidence of the presence of the Edomite civilization, The Babylonians, and the Umayyad rule in the area. The village was originally settled by Bedouin nomads in the first century BC and was later established as a royal site by the Umayyad rulers in the 11th century. During the Islamic period, the village was known for its Potteries, and it flourished during the reign of the Ayyubids and Mamluks. The Umayyad family later settled in the village and stayed until 1411 when the Mamluks took control of the area. The village experienced several periods of prosperity during the Ottoman Empire, but it also suffered during the First World War conflict between the Ottoman and the British forces.
