Qasr al-Mushatta is a large palace complex located south of Amman, Jordan. It was originally built in the late 8th century, during the late Umayyad period, as a royal residence and a place of entertainment. The palace was partially destroyed in a fire in the mid-ninth century, and the remains were used to build later structures in the region. Today, the complex consists of large mounds that contain remaining walls, decorated stones, and fragments.
History
Qasr al-Mushatta was first built by the Umayyad caliph al-Walid II in the late 8th century. It served as a royal residence, as well as a place for entertainment. The palace was constructed with the finest craftsmen and materials available, and the walls and ceilings were decorated with carved sculptures. Services
Qasr al-Mushatta is open to visitors from 9am to 4pm every day. There is a ticket office and a parking area. There is also a small museum with artifacts from the site, as well as a cafeteria. There are also guided tours available for those interested in learning more about the site.
