History:

St. Charbel's Maronite Church In Jerusalem was established in 1999, with the approval of the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Ignatius IV, with the purpose of serving the spiritual needs of the city's Maronite Catholic community. At first services were held in a rented space, but with the help of Lebanese and Syrian donors the parish was eventually able to purchase a plot of land in one of the city's oldest Christian communities, Shepherds' Fields. The land had previously been owned by the Franciscan Order and was used by the Order for pilgrimages, but was sold in 1998. On this land, the Church was constructed and dedicated in 2006.
