The Church of England began its Jerusalem operation in 1841 to provide spiritual care to the British residents of Jerusalem. The original building was consecrated in 1849 and rebuilt in 1872 and was the gathering place for many members of the Christian faith. In 1894, the Church of England officially changed its name to “Christ Church”. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jerusalem.
