Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem In Jerusalem: History,Facts, & Services
The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem is a Catholic ecclesiastical jurisdiction in the Holy Land that is located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It has authority over Catholics living in the area and is the central authority of the Catholic Church in the region. The Latin Patriarchate was established in 1099 shortly after the Crusaders captured the city of Jerusalem and set up their own rule over it. It has since been passed down through many generations and is currently administered by the Archbishop of Latin Patriarchate, Fouad Twal. The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem provides: spiritual services for Catholic residents and visitors, aid and financial assistance to local Catholic churches and schools, and collaboration with other Christian communities in the region. It also works closely with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and other international organizations in order to promote peaceful coexistence and humanitarian aid throughout the region.
