St. Nicolas Greek Orthodox Church In Jerusalem is a 12th-century Greek Orthodox church located near the Jaffa Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem, Israel. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. History states that the church was built in the 12th century AD and was constructed by mother Theodora, the Empress of Byzantium, dedicated to St. Nicolas as a gratitude offering for his activism in Jerusalem. Later it was built and extended by the Crusader King Baldwin III between 1150 and 1154.
The church is a place of pilgrimage for the Greek Catholic and Orthodox faithful. It is known for its distinctive red and white painted walls, unique frescoes, antique mosaic pieces, and iconography. It includes a small basilica, a bell tower, and a chapel. Services are held regularly in the church, conducted in Greek.
