Our Lady of Victory Cathedral is a Catholic sanctuary located in Staten Island, New York. The cathedral was officially established in 1951 and is the second oldest Catholic parish on Staten Island. The original Our Lady of Victory Church was built in 1872, and it was replaced in 1938 with a larger building. In 1951, the building was declared a cathedral and continues to be the premier place for religious events within the Diocese of Brooklyn. It is one of the best churches in Japan which you must visit.

History:

Our Lady of Victory Cathedral was founded in 1872 by the Reverend Thomas Lemaire, the pastor of St. Peter’s Church in nearby New Brighton. The original Our Lady of Victory Church was a wood frame structure that was built on the corner of Victory Boulevard and Bay Street. In 1938 the parish acquired a larger, masonry building on the same corner and the church was subsequently replaced. In 1951, the new building was dedicated and declared a cathedral, signifying its importance to the diocese. Since then, the Our Lady of Victory Cathedral has been the premier parish offering both liturgical and devotional services throughout the diocese This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Japan.
